Minutes of the Annual General Meeting of the International Society of Urological Pathology held at the Hilton Hotel, Baltimore, MD on March 2, 2013<\/u><\/p>\n
Present<\/strong>: Dr. Rodolfo Montironi (The President of ISUP), Dr. Peter Humphrey (President-Elect), Dr. John Srigley (Past-President), Dr. Lars Egevad (Secretary), Dr. Ming Zhou (Treasurer), and 85 other members of the Society.<\/p>\n The President called the meeting to order at 18:29 p.m.<\/p>\n Apologies: <\/strong>Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from the following members: Liliane Boccon-Gibod, Christopher Obiorah, Murali Varma and Thomas Wheeler.<\/p>\n Necrology:<\/strong> The President asked the members to observe a moment of silence for Drs. Robert Scully and Leopold Koss who recently passed away. It was also mentioned that Dr. John Azzopardi also just has passed away.<\/p>\n Minutes<\/strong>: The minutes of the previous Annual General Meeting held in Vancouver BC on March 17, 2012 have previously been distributed to all members by the Secretary. These were taken as read and approved.<\/p>\n The renal cell carcinoma consensus conference held last year in Vancouver involved more than 200 members and had more than 100 delegates. This resulted in an updated classification of these tumors (The ISUP\/Vancouver Classification of Renal Neoplasia) and the establishment of novel grading criteria for clear cell and papillary renal cell carcinoma (The ISUP Renal Grading System). The IAP congress held in Cape Town, South Africa in October had a GU program co-organized by ISUP through Dan Berney.<\/p>\n This year’s companion meeting has a new feature. The last part is dedicated to Controversies and Hot Topics in Urological Pathology: A dialogue with the experts with Dr. Epstein and Dr. Amin. The other main event of this year’s meeting is the 2013 ISUP Conference on Best Practices Recommendations in the Application of Immunohistochemistry in Diagnostic Urologic Pathology, organized and chaired by Dr. Epstein and Dr. Amin.<\/p>\n ISUP will as usual host the Grawitz dinner, this year on Tuesday evening. All members of ISUP have been invited.<\/p>\n Within the next few months the proceedings of the RCC consensus conference are bound to be published in the American Journal of Surgical Pathology. The proceedings of the 2013 ISUP Conference on Immunohistochemistry will be submitted for publication shortly after the meeting.<\/p>\n The 25th<\/sup> European Congress of Pathology, Lisbon, Portugal will have joint sessions between ISUP and ESP. The 8th<\/sup> Pacific IAP congress, Busan, Korea in September 2013 will also have a series of genitourinary pathology sessions including ISUP speakers.<\/p>\n ISUP Case of the Month will soon be launched on our website. Dr. Jonathan Epstein has regularly posted interesting cases weekly. After years of doing this important work, Dr. Epstein has requested to be rotated off. A committee led by Mahul Amin will post 1-2 cases per month. More information will follow.<\/p>\n ISUP officers currently author a CAP Whitepaper on the role of pathology in Active Surveillance.<\/p>\n The Secretary expressed satisfaction with the new time for the AGM meeting, i.e. before the ISUP companion meeting. He informed the members that he would now resign after 8 years of service. He thanked the members for the pleasure and privilege to work for ISUP. Thanks to the work of many people ISUP has had an outstanding development during these years. Since last AGM the number of senior members has increased further and ISUP now has 589 members, including 98 resident members. However, only 299 of senior members have paid their dues for 2013 and the others were encouraged to do so.<\/p>\n The Treasurer told that the economy of the Society is in balance and agreed with the Secretary’s plea that the members pay their dues. Members were informed about the plans to organize electronic payment by Paypal through the Society’s website.<\/p>\n The 2013 Excellence in Urologic Pathology Resident\/Fellow Research Award were given to Grzegorz T Gurda (Baltimore), Vadim Khachaturov (New York), Pawel A Mroz (Chicago) by a committee chaired by Adeboye Osunkoya.<\/p>\n The 2012 stipends were given to Sara Falzarano (Cleveland Clinic), Gang Wang (Case Western Reserve University), Kyung Park (Cornell) by a committee chaired by Samson Fine.<\/p>\n The Executive Committee proposed the following candidates:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The executive committee will also appoint the following councillors:<\/p>\n No other nominations had been received.
