{"id":338,"date":"2015-10-06T18:20:06","date_gmt":"2015-10-06T18:20:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.isupweb.org\/?page_id=338"},"modified":"2016-01-08T14:14:18","modified_gmt":"2016-01-08T14:14:18","slug":"minutes-annual-general-meeting-2010","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/dev.isupweb.org\/isup\/about-isup\/agendas-and-meeting-minutes\/minutes-annual-general-meeting-2010\/","title":{"rendered":"Minutes Annual General Meeting 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><h3>Minutes of the Annual General Meeting of the Society held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, Washington DC on March 20, 2010<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Present:<\/strong><br>\nThe President of the Society, Dr. John Srigley,&nbsp; Dr. Liang Cheng (Treasurer), Dr.&nbsp;Lars Egevad (Secretary), Dr. Rodolfo Montironi (President-Elect), Dr. Brett Delahunt (Past-President) and 50 other members as recorded in the attendance register.<\/p>\n<p>The President called the meeting to order at 9.34 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Apologies: <\/strong><br>\nApologies for unavoidable absence were received from members Mahul Amin, Liliane Boccon-Gibod, Roger Brumback, Antonio Cubilla, Pierre-Andr&eacute; Diener, Chris Foster, Eddie Fridman, Cristina Magi-Galluzzi and Philippe Camparo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Necrology: <\/strong><br>\nThe President asked the members to observe a moment of silence for Dr. Myron Tannenbaum who recently passed away.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Minutes: <\/strong><br>\nThe minutes of the previous Annual General Meeting held on March 7, 2009 in Boston, MA have previously been distributed to all members by the Secretary. These were taken as read and approved unanimously.<\/p>\n<p><strong>President&rsquo;s report: <\/strong><br>\nThe President thanked the members and officers of the Society for their support of educational, peer assessment and social activities. Drs. Holger Moch, Esther Oliva and Kiril Trypkov successfully organized and ran the Annual Companion Scientific meeting. Starting next year (2011) the Companion meeting will have self-assessment modules (SAMs). Speakers at the Companion meeting will provide multiple choice questions related to their presentations. There is also ongoing discussion about the possibility of having educational certificates with dual USCAP and ISUP logos documenting subspecialty educational activity at the USCAP meeting. The ISUP has been actively involved in several other meetings including the Australasian Division of the IAP meeting in Sydney (June 2010), the Asia-Pacific ISUP Congress in Kochi, India (August 2010) and the European Congress of Pathology in Florence (September 2010), There is a planned IAP\/ISUP course scheduled for the bi-annual IAP Congress in Sao Paulo in October 2010. The President highlighted the importance of sponsoring international activities and globalizing our educational activities.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Srigley thanked Dr. Jonathan Epstein and the informatics group at John Hopkins for maintaining our website and continuing to provide cases of the week which have proven to be quite popular.<\/p>\n<p>The publication of the proceedings of the 2009 Consensus Conference on Handling and Staging of Radical Prostatectomy was discussed. All six manuscripts have been peer reviewed and are in a final editing phase. It is anticipated that the final versions will be submitted to Modern Pathology in April. The next ISUP Consensus Conference will relate to Renal Cell Carcinoma and is scheduled to take place in conjunction with the USCAP meeting in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The President thanked Dr. Ken Iczkowski and his co-adjudicators, Drs. Steven Shen (Houston) and Jennifer Merrimen (Halifax) for reviewing the 2010 GU trainee abstracts and selecting the three winners who were presented with certificates this evening.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Samson Fine was thanked for chairing the Fellowship Stiped Award Committee. He was assisted by Drs. Jiaoti Huang, Asli Yilmaz and Antonio Lopez-Beltran. The 2009 stipends were given to Maria Tretiakova&nbsp;(University of Chicago), Max (Xiangtian) Kong (New York University), Li Yan Khor (University Hospitals Case Medical Center). Members from countries outside of North America are encouraged to apply for this stipend award.<\/p>\n<p>The President congratulated Dr. Alberto Ayala (Houston) on being awarded the Koss medal for his career-level achievement in promoting excellence in the field of urological pathology.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions have transpired with the Renal Pathology Society in order to facilitate collaboration between the RPS and ISUP. The President outlined the recently completed work of the College of American Pathologists related to standardized reporting of cancer pathology. There is a comprehensive group of contemporary GU pathology checklists updated with the 7th edition TNM. It was suggested that the ISUP take a leadership role in internationalizing these documents.<\/p>\n<p>The Constitution and By Laws of the ISUP were reviewed and modified in 2009. The President thanked Drs. Lars Egevad and David Griffiths for conducting a successful e-voting process. Almost 50% of the ISUP senior members voted electronically and the vast majority voted in favour of the amendments (145 &ndash; Yes, 2 &ndash; No). Subsequently, it was brought to our attention that a minor edit was needed in the By Laws. A motion correcting article 4, paragraph 2, Section a) in the By Laws to remove the word &ldquo;editor&rdquo; was proposed by Dr. Steven Shen and seconded by Tom Wheeler. The motion was passed unanimously.<\/p>\n<p>The President concluded the report by thanking Brett Delahunt (Past-President), Rodolfo Montironi (President-Elect), Liang Cheng (Treasurer) and Lars Egevad (Secretary) for their exceptionally hard work over the previous year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Secretary&rsquo;s report: <\/strong><br>\nThe Society continues to grow. Since last AGM the number of senior members has increase with 40 and ISUP now has 395 senior members and 71 resident members, i.e. a total of 466 members. It has been noted that some of the senior members have not paid their dues the last 2-3 years. A final reminder will be circulated by the Secretary and if dues are still not paid these members will be excluded from the members list. The ISUP reception earlier this day was well attended and continues to be an appreciated social event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Treasurer&rsquo;s report: <\/strong><br>\nThe Treasurer described the process for dues payments and also reported that the economy of the Society is strong and sufficient to maintain the planned activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nominations: <\/strong><br>\nIn the revised Constitution\/By Laws, there are provisions for formal Councillor positions, each associated with a two-year term. International Councillors were proposed as follows: Peter Humphrey (North America), Athanase Billis (South America), Puay Hoon Tan (Asia), Hema Samaratunga (Oceania) and Holger Moch (Europe). Dr. Jonathan Epstein was nominated as a Special Councillor for website activities. These nominations were endorsed by the Executive and the appointments were unanimously approved by members attending the meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>General business: <\/strong><br>\nDr. David Bostwick proposed that the ISUP revision of the Gleason score should be referred to as the ISUP modified Gleason score. Dr. Dan Berney agreed but suggested that the year 2005 be specified in case further revisions take place.
