A suggestion to offer a lifetime membership was considered, however, this was judged to be a financial risk for the Society .<\/p>\n The ISUP stipend Award will continue this year and three awards of 1000 USD were awarded in 2007 to allow Residents and Fellows to visit other training institutions. These along with the ISUP Research Prizes remain important mechanisms for the Society to promote GU pathology amongst our colleagues in training. A further important role the Society has is the provision of advice regarding controversial areas of GU pathology and in this regard previous consensus conferences have been highly influential in shaping the progress of our speciality.<\/p>\n A further consensus conference is planned for next year and will focus on the handling and staging of radical prostatectomy specimens. This will be held in conjunction with the 2009 USCAP meeting in Boston and will be chaired by the Secretary, Dr. Egevad. \nThe President of the Society, Dr. Brett Delahunt, the Treasurer, Dr. Liang Cheng, the Secretary, Dr. Lars Egevad, the President-Elect, Dr. John Srigley, and 32 other members as recorded in the attendance register.<\/p>\n
\nApologies for unavoidable absence were received from Dr. David Bostwick.<\/p>\n
\nThe minutes of the previous Annual General Meeting held on March 25, 2007 in San Diego, CA were read by the Secretary and approved by the meeting.<\/p>\n
\nThe President thanked the Members for their attendance at the business session of the meeting and also thanked the Officers for their sterling work over the past 12 months. He then reviewed the activities of the Society and noted that the membership continues to increase at a pleasing rate, with the current roll being 338 members. He also made mention of the role of the website (http.\/\/www.isuporg.org<\/a>) in promoting the Society, but noted that the number of hits logged on the site have declined recently. An email will be circulated, reminding the members of the log on procedure.<\/p>\n
\nThe President gave notice that the Constitution and By-laws of the Society will be reviewed during the year and that recommendations for amendment will be brought to the next Annual General Meeting.<\/p>\n
\nISUP now has about 300 senior members and 40 resident members. Among senior members, 2\/3 are North Americans and 1\/3 from other continents, including 16% from Europe, 9% from Asia, 4% from Australia or New Zealand, 3% from South America and 0.3% from Africa. The Secretary expressed his satisfaction that ISUP is now a truly international Society. It was reminded that among other things, membership gives access to the website and grants. For upcoming ISUP consensus meetings, it will also be required that participants are senior members of ISUP and have paid their dues. The ISUP reception has grown steadily to become a popular social event, this year with a record participation of around 70 guests.<\/p>\n
\nThe Treasurer reported that the economy of the Society is strong. The dues will remain at USD 40 per year but the dues for 3 years will be reduced to 100 USD.<\/p>\n
